Citizens Transfer & Storage Co., Inc., is one of Tucson’s oldest family-owned businesses. The Citizens Transfer Company opened in 1907 and in May of 1921, Edward Belton, John’s grandfather, joined the company and bought four shares of company stock. He and J.W. Archer ran the company until
Mr. Archer’s death in 1952, and in 1957, Belton purchased the remaining shares from the Archer estate. Edward Belton’s son E.W. (Bill) Belton joined the company that year, and upon the death of his father in 1984, Bill became President. He ran the company with the help of his son John, and in 2000 John and his sisters purchased their father’s shares of the company. John then bought his sisters out in 2004 and 2006, respectively. John started in the business in 1981 as a helper, became a local driver in 1983, became a long-haul driver in 1985 and came into the office in 1991 as the Operations Manager. During his time as a driver, he has driven to all 48 states and every major city in the United States. In 1994 John was promoted
to Vice President and in 2000 promoted to President/CEO.
